Aryz paints a large triptych mural in Carballo, Galicia

Right upon his arrival from recent trip to US, Aryz got straight to work in his homeland. In conjunction with Cultural forum Carballo, Galicia, he painted this large mural on the outside of the building.
Consisting of tree main parts, this distinctive piece forms a sort of triptych showing some of Aryz' signature types of works. The largest part is showing a dissected car formed of abstract shapes. Borrowing some elements from his past work, such as organic-feeling, submerging elements, this section might be seen as the new direction for the Catalan artist. The other two smaller walls are figurative works, both playing with repetitiveness and created using masterful painting technique which he's been working on lately. While thematically and style-wise different, the artist managed to harmonize these pieces together with limited palette that is blending with its surrounding as well as recurring details. Having a very limited time of only 10 days to finish this massive work, the results is still more than impressive.
Check out more photos after the jump and come back soon for more updates on Aryz work worldwide.

Francisco Diaz aka Pastel is the latest artist to paint on the streets of Girona in Spain for the Milestone Street Art Project
Painted in the district of "Font de la Polvora", a gipsy neighborhood where the public space is used as an extension of their homes. The site identity is an important element of his inspiration because its a community full of habits and traditions. Birds competition, cigarettes, chatting, smokes, playing cards. This neighborhood was created in a wasteland around the city's periphery.
In front of the wall is located a very thin river where some wild plants are growing and animals are drinking water. The wall represents this area considered as outcast for some but definitely united between them.

The Dew Mural, created by Captain Kris and SiMitchell was just completed on the streets of trendy East London to celebrate the launch of the Mountain Dew Bootcamp coming to the UK.

The UK’s first ever Dew Tour Bootcamp took place last Saturday at the iconic skate park, Radlands Plaza, in Northampton - known as the birthplace of skate culture due to Radlands being the first skate park to open in the UK in 1994.
Competition was fierce, with skaters battling it out at the park to win the coveted first prize – a place at the Dew Tour Am Series at the iconic Museumplein in Amsterdam and a VIP skate trip to Los Angeles to meet and skate with the pros from the Dew team.
Chris Oliver won first place and will travel to Amsterdam later this year, with Chris competing in the Dew Tour Am Series on August 30 at the iconic Museumplein.
For more information, check the Facebook page to and follow the conversation on Twitter with #DewTourBootcamp.

It took about two days for the British duo to wrap up this piece located near Shoreditch High Street on Great Eastern Street. If you are stopping by Shoreditch soon, the mural can now be seen until Sunday 19 July,
Consisting of 4 panels, each 4.3m wide by 2.8m tall, the overall mural is approximately 18.5 metres wide and 3 metres tall.
The mural perfectly captures the artists’ style – electric greens of all shades, exaggerated features and weird and wonderful creatures…truly idiosyncratic and eye-catching to boot!
As usual, join us after the jump for a few extra images on this brand new artwork!

Mobstr presents "The Curious Frontier Of Red" in London

While we last heard from him a few days ago with "HUH?", Mobstr is back with a brand new intervention which took place on the streets of East London in the UK entitled "The Curious Frontier Of Red".
I cycled past this wall on the way to work for years. I noticed that graffiti painted within the red area was “buffed” with red paint. However, graffiti outside of the red area would be removed via pressure washing. This prompted the start of an experiment. Unlike other works, I was very uncertain as to what results it would yield. Here is what transpired over the course of a year. --Mobstr

Artist Interview: Don't Fret

The artist known as Don't Fret describes himself as a "vaguely anonymous human from Chicago". While his new works pop up constantly in his hometown (as well as New York) he's also gotten up in Miami, San Francisco, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Prague, and Munich. Don't Fret's paintings and paste ups show off his distinct characters as well as the artist's biting sense of humor. The viewer passing by a Don't Fret street piece usually walks on after having a laugh, a smile, or a slight reconsideration of their gluten intake. We got a chance to ask Don't Fret some questions days before his "Signs of The Times" show opens at Johalla Projects on June 26th.

@jreich: Let’s start with an intro. When did you start painting and how did you become “Don’t Fret”?

DF: I first learned about graffiti late in elementary school/early in high school through friends, but I quickly realized I was terrible at it. I didn't have the skill set in terms of traditional graffiti. There were a few guys that were writing in Wicker Park in Chicago during that time (circa 2005) that were doing graffiti, but it was different than the traditional wild-style or NYC graffiti. Guys like Sonny, Nite Moves, Preston, Jimmy Carter, they were just writing their name. No style to it other than their personal handwriting, I was really into that. Sonny drew these really simple rain clouds with marker or oil-stick. That was probably the first time I realized an image could be a force on the street the way a name could be.

I was probably 14-15 and I was broke, and spray paint was banned in the city. So I would go to Walgreens and buy Magnum Sharpies and catch tags up and down Division St. That was the very beginning. Then in college I learned about wheat paste and started pasting a bit, and then after living in Brasil for a bit I came back to Chicago and started  really pasting and working a lot, which led to bigger and more elaborate characters and situations for the characters to be in.

Pejac rounds up his Asian tour with a stop over in Tokyo

After Hong Kong and Seoul, Pejac recently had the final stop of his Asian tour in Tokyo. During couple of days in Japan's capital, Spanish artist created various works that are all focused on local tradition and culture.
Mostly showing appreciation to the culture and people, Pejac had to address the touchy issue of fishing and especially shark fishing Japan. His installation "Fin Soup" is showing a line of shark fins emerging from the bustling walk path in Shibuya, with obvious human bites visible on each fin. From the photos we just received it is obvious that the reaction to this striking piece was varying from enjoyment to disgust, which is always good with engaged public art.
The rest of the works are classic Pejac pieces showing human silhouettes in interaction with their surrounding and creating a surrealist illusion. "Everybody Is An Artist" is showing a cleaning lady pouring out the bucket, and creating the recognizable Great Wave by Hokusai. Painted in Shiboku Honcho, Kawasaki, the piece is borrowing the name from Joseph Beuys, and is a tribute to all working women of the world and the wonders they do daily. "Guliver" is another intervention showing a little boy watering a bonsai tree with flock of miniature birds flying from it. Using the tradition as an essential part to create the illusion, Pejac placed this serene work on the side of the railroad in Chiba, near Tokyo. As the final piece he painted an outdoor version of his famous "Seppukku" image showing a samurai performing a ritual suicide with a cherry blossom branch in a back alley of Shibuya. While paying respect to the Japanese people and their culture, the work can be seen as symbolic death of traditional Japan as we know it under the pressure of modernization.
Check out all the works after the jump and feel free to leave your comment about these exquisite public works.

100TAUR creates a new mural for the Dominican Order in Toulouse, France

A surreal encounter between French graffiti artist 100Taur and the Dominicans: for the celebration of the 800th Anniversary of the Order of Preachers , founded in Toulouse (FR), the Dominicans asked lowbrow artist 100TAUR to create a 100 square meters mural on their convent in Toulouse.

A surreal encounter between French graffiti artist 100Taur and the Dominicans: for the celebration of the 800th Anniversary of the Order of Preachers, founded in Toulouse (FR), the Dominicans asked lowbrow artist 100TAUR to create a 100 square meters mural on their convent in Toulouse.

It’s a fusion between two worlds that coexist little: that of a religious order and that of a lowbrow and graffiti artist who created a (sometimes scary) fantasy world. A proof that 100Taur is open to all artistic challenges and encounters.

Surprising as it may seem, it also follows the ongoing collaboration of Dominicans with contemporary artists, like Matisse in 1951 when he created the Chapelle du Rosaire in Vence.

For a week, 100Taur has painted a huge portrait of Saint Dominique on the outside wall of the Dominican monastery. The artist studied the iconography of St. Dominique and incorporated many symbols including a lily flower for purity, the Toulouse cross, as well as his signature ‘Slug ‘character, symbol of resilience.

More than 600 persons came to the inauguration were the mural was officially blessed.
'St Dominique' can be seen at the Couvent des Dominicains, Metro Faculte de Pharmacie, in Toulouse.

Hit the jump for more information and images regarding this unusual collaboration and check back with us for more updates about 100TAUR.

After painting mostly within his homeland's borders, it is great to see Russian artist Rustam Qbic taking part in the Mural Istanbul festival. During his recent stay in Istanbul, he painted an impressive piece entitled "Miracle".
Marking a special moment in his life, the piece celebrates the miracle of bringing new life. Known for surrealist, emotive works that carry universal positive messages, this piece is no exception. Showing a big human-like flower carrying a new life inside a lush garden, the mural took 7 days to be completed. With colorful flowers, burning candles and monarch butterflies around it, the piece has a calming, almost meditating feel to it. Painted with brush and pastel palette, the finished piece feels very light and unassertive which adds to the complete experience.

Pejac paints a series of new works in Seoul, Korea

Currently touring around East Asia, Spanish artist Pejac recently stopped in Seoul and left couple of recognizable pieces. Working in an environment that is not common on the street art maps, the artist used this opportunity well to create couple of striking signature illusions.
"Icarus" is a simple piece that is showing a shot down paper plane, burning as it falls to the ground. Through well measured painting intervention and clever placement, the artist created this striking piece that is a metaphor for a delicate political reality in the region. The 2nd piece "Oxymoron" was improvised on the spot, and is a great example of Pejac's creativity and talent - painting on old iron door, using only black paint he created an illusion of a semi open curtain that is closed by a real metallic lock. This mix of reality Vs imagination comes even more obvious on two window drawings he did in his hotel room, showing a young girl on top of the highest mainmast, sailing into her imagination, as well as a helicopter carrying the sun around the earth. Aside from their visual appearance, all the works carry strong meaning and message which makes them even more special.
Check out more photos of Pejac's work in Seoul and come back soon for more updates from his Asian tour.

Ever just sent us some exclusive images of his newest mural which he just completed on the streets of Buenos Aires in Argentina.
"Three phases of faith" is a wall that is located near the Basilica of Luján, place of religious meeting. People for all over Argentina pass by the Basilica during the pilgrimage. The Wall has that religion issue cause talks about that moment when you try to communicate with "God", that moment where one makes the movement of the cross and looks to the sky.. waiting for that answer, the answer never comes (who knows), but the last thing you lose is hope.
Hit the jump for a few extra shots and then make sure to check back with us through the week for the latest mural updates.

Artist Interview: Hebru Brantley

We sit down with Chicago-based artist Hebru Brantley for an exclusive chat.
Hebru thnking big on S Wabash in Chicago prior to opening "Memoirs Of The Minimum Wage"
Hebru Brantley's path in the art world started in his native Chicago tagging walls and marking up trains. He's since moved onto impressive murals all over the world while exhibiting work in New York, Los Angeles, London, Switzerland, etc. His youthful characters and pop infused contemporary art have struck a chord with high profile collectors such as Jay Z & Beyonce, George Lucas, LeBron James, Nicki Minaj, Swizz Beatz, and Lenny Kravitz. His road has lead back to Chicago as he opened "Memoirs Of The Minimum Wage" at Vertical Gallery (1016 N. Western Avenue in Ukrainian Village) last week. Our own @jreich got a chance to talk to Hebru about his new show, art in Chicago, and who he's got his eye on in the street art world.

@jreich: Tell us about your new show at Vertical Gallery “Memoirs of The Minimum Wage”. How is it different from previous gallery shows that you’ve done?

HB: This is the first time I’ve ever done a comprehensive works on paper show, where all the works are on paper. In doing that I had to scale down a lot of my works as I tend to think and work “big”. In composition I had to shrink that down a tremendous amount and still be able to tell the same narratives I would on a larger scale.

"Paint It Black" a new mural by Shepard Fairey in Munich, Germany

Shepard Fairey has landed in Europe and his first stop in Munich, Germany where he just finished working on this new piece.

Shepard Fairey has landed in Europe and his first stop in Munich, Germany where he just finished working on this new piece.
Invited by the guys at Positive Propaganda, the American muralist brought to life this signature piece entitled "Paint it Black".
When I was working on the Paint it Black concept I tried several approaches, as I do with every poster, but instead of only one successful direction, I felt I found two solutions for Paint it Black. Both versions are inspired by the Rolling Stones song, but the first version was fashioned more after a vintage newspaper ad, while the Paint it Black Hand has a bit more of a propaganda feel. Regardless, they are both about oil dictating too much of our energy policy and our foreign policy. --Shepard Fairey
