Brandalism: 600 ad takeovers in Paris before the COP21 Climate Conference

Two days before the launch of the UN COP21 Climate Conference, 600 posters were installed by the Brandalism project in outdoor media spaces across Paris.
Paul Insect
Two days before the launch of the UN COP21 Climate Conference, 600 posters were installed by the Brandalism project in outdoor media spaces across Paris. 82 Artists from 19 different countries made artworks to challenge the corporate takeover of COP21 and to reveal the connections between advertising, the promotion of consumerism and climate change.
Amidst the French state of emergency banning all public gatherings following the terrorist attacks on 13 November in Paris, the Brandalism project has worked with Parisians to insert unauthorised artworks across the city that aim to highlight the links between advertising, consumerism, fossil fuel dependency and climate change.
The artworks were placed in advertising spaces owned by JC Decaux - one of the world’s largest outdoor advertising firms and an official sponsor to the COP21 climate talks.
Other prominent corporate sponsors of the climate talks such as Air France, GDF Suez (Engie) and Dow Chemicals are parodied in the posters – whilst heads of state such as Francois Hollande, David Cameron, Barack Obama, Angela Merkel and Shinzo Abi also feature. The artworks were created by over 80 renowned artists from 19 countries across the world including Neta Harari, Jimmy Cauty, Banksy-collaborator Paul Insect, Escif and Kennard Phillips – many of whom featured at Banksy’s Dismaland exhibition in England this summer.
Joe Elan from Brandalism said, “By sponsoring the climate talks, major polluters such as Air France and GDF-Suez-Engie can promote themselves as part of the solution – when actually they are part of the problem.”

As a wrap up of his productive residency in Puerto Rico with JUSTKIDS, ROA dropped one last piece at the iconic bowl of La Perla. La Perla is a historical community astride the northern historic city wall of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, stretching about 650 yards along the rocky Atlantic coast.
It took ROA just a few hours to create this impressive mural which raise the shark finning issue with this large shark and his sliced fins.
Shark finning is the practice of slicing off the shark’s fins while the shark is still alive and throwing the rest of its body back into the ocean where it can take days to die what must be an agonising death. Some sharks starve to death, others are slowly eaten by other fish, and some drown, because sharks need to keep moving to force water through their gills for oxygen.

"Earth Crisis", a new installation by Shepard Fairey @ the Eiffel Tower, Paris

Shepard Fairey is currently in Paris, France where he just unveiled his latest installation "Earth Crisis", an environmentally themed giant sphere hung between the first and second floor of the legendary Eiffel Tower.

Shepard Fairey is currently in Paris, France where he just unveiled his latest installation "Earth Crisis", an environmentally themed giant sphere hung between the first and second floor of the legendary Eiffel Tower.
Visible from November 20 to 26, it is a strong artistic gesture to Paris which will be hosting the COP21 world conference on climate change. This was made possible with the help of Gallerie Itinerrance.
The Earth Crisis Globe is a mandala designed to provide a unified ornamental structure that evokes floral motifs and harmony with nature.  Housed within the mandala’s shields are images that symbolize both threats to nature and incitement to respect it.  The mandala images, composed of climate change and environmentally themed graphics, are positioned to raise awareness and provoke discussions about the Earth’s future.  The colors used in the globe design connect blue and green of air, water, and vegetation that allow the earth to sustain life.
My political stance on protecting the planet is driven by my concern for the quality of life for future generations.  I’m not an alarmist, but I do think people need to understand that we are facing an earth crisis.  I think it is exciting that the globe provides different experiences for the viewer from a distance and up close while living in the heart of the Eiffel Tower.  I hope the Earth Crisis Globe appeals visually but also generates a needed conversation about the fate of our planet.

Seth paints a simple yet powerful piece on the streets of Paris

One day after the horrible terrorists attacks in Paris, our friend Seth decided to send out a message to the world and his fellow citizens. And while many artists took their pans and papers to express emotions, he walked out of his house with couple of spray cans and painted this simple yet striking new mural on the streets of his hometown.
Showing one of his kid characters writing on a wall, the piece says "Fluctuat nec mergitur" which is a motto that has been used since 14th century by the city of Paris. It is a Latin phrase meaning "Tossed but not sunk", and it meaning explains perfectly the state of the city and it's inhabitants after recent events. The kid also painted a paper boat next to it, symbolizing the fragility of the city, but also, its power to overcome such tragic.
The piece was painted @ Place Ménilmontant in Paris, and we have more photos of it for you after the jump.

The French artist OakoAK has become popular with some of the smartest paper works on the streets of Saint Etienne and in several cities around France. We reached him for a quick chat about his beautiful ephemeral compositions and his way of intending street art.

Hello OAKOAK, in the hype Street Art World, full of giant painted walls, it seems there’s no space for tiny clever artworks.. Is that true?
Well, I don't know, there are also some artists who really like to use little spaces as Slinkachu, some works of Pejac, Fra Biancoshock... Perhaps it's not that hype but I really like to use little spaces, for me it's better when it's difficult to find it, and I like doing just a small intervention in the urban element. There are enough places for giant street art and small street art. The most important is that it's on the street and it's free for people to discover and see it.

Hello Nina, I spent my last two days trying to make a point on your endless production from street artworks to sculptures and ... Well, there are too many beautiful creations to summarise in a few words. Help me, what do you see when you look back on all of this?

Wow, I'm not so good explaining my work, but it’s quite easy to tell you one thing:
everything I do today is something that comes from the past. Since I was a child I always had this style and these obsessions, the big eyes, the details on the characters, the patterns, the craziness and the idea to transform letters and numbers in characters. Recently I found some of my earlier drawings, and on them there’s the same attention to details that I crave right now. When i look back, i can see all my life, I can definitely see me! If someone wanted to know something about me, my life, and what i have lived, just look at my works chronologically!
